Lyme Regis has gone from sleepy small town to a vibrant, cosmopolitan small town, in just a few years.
High street brands such as Fatface, Seasalt, WH Smith, Tesco’s have moved in alongside The Cooperative and the many other new and long-standing locally owned shops, businesses and museums the town has to offer.

You’ll be spoilt for choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner with an abundance of restaurants, pubs, cafes, deli’s and takeaways, including, to name a few: Hix’s Oyster and Fish House, owned by local celebrity chef, Mark Hix, The French Lieutenant’s Bistro; Indian, Thai, Italian, British, vegetarian and more. On wet days, a great cozy little cafe to go to with the kids is Aroma Cafe, which has a small play area inside.
In 2015 a big new playground was opened next to Anning Road playing fields. Just a short walk from the town centre and beach. If arriving by car, there is also a public car park a 3-minute walk away, on Charmouth Road. The playground has an amazing pirate ship and zipline amongst lots of other activities that will keep kids 0-14 happy and occupied for hours.
For fossil and dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages – pick up some fossil hunting gear in one of the fossil shops and get down to Monmouth Beach and try your luck at finding some fossils.
If you’re in the mood to see a movie, rain or shine, our local Art Deco cinema, The Regent Cinema, has something on daily and is located in the centre of town.
For art and theatre lovers, Lyme Regis has a wonderful little theatre with some great performances all year round. The Town Mill, off Coombe Street, with it’s cobbled courtyard and restored working mill, has art galleries, a silversmith, a seamstress a pottery a cafe and a micro-brewery.
Just a five minute drive inland, in the neighbouring village of Uplyme is another recently updated playground adjacent to the Uplyme Village Hall. You can also go for a game of tennis here as there is also a tennis court available for hire.
